CSET: Mandarin

The World Languages subtests taken toward a Single Subject Teaching Credential differ from the subtests taken toward a Bilingual Authorization. For more information on certification requirements, see Tests Used Toward Certification.

CSET subtests used toward a Single Subject Teaching Credential in Mandarin:

• Mandarin Subtest I (test code 163)
• Mandarin Subtest II (test code 164)
• Mandarin Subtest III (test code 165)

CSET subtests used toward a Bilingual Authorization for Mandarin:

• Mandarin Subtest III (test code 165)
• World Languages Subtest IV (test code 250)
• Chinese Subtest V (test code 253)

You may register to take any one subtest in a single test session.

Format

Computer-based test (CBT) and online-proctored test:

• Subtest IV: 50 multiple-choice questions
• Subtest V: 5 constructed-response questions

Computer-based test (CBT) only:

• Subtest I: 20 multiple-choice questions and 4 constructed-response questions
• Subtest II: 20 multiple-choice questions and 4 constructed-response questions
• Subtest III: 20 multiple-choice questions and 6 constructed-response questions

Session Length

Computer-Based Testing
Subtest I: 1 hour 30 minutes
Subtest II: 1 hour 45 minutes
Subtest III: 2 hours
Subtests IV and V: 1 hour and 15 minutes per subtest
15 additional minutes are provided to complete a nondisclosure agreement and tutorial.

Online Proctoring
Subtests IV and V: 1 hour and 15 minutes per subtest
15 additional minutes are provided to complete a nondisclosure agreement and tutorial.

Breaks

Computer-Based Testing
You may take restroom breaks during testing. Time taken for breaks is considered part of the available testing time.

Online Proctoring
No breaks allowed.

Fees

$99 per subtest

Computer-Based Testing

Candidates will receive a receipt of completion at the conclusion of their test center appointment.

Online Proctoring
Test results are available within 5 weeks of testing.
Subtest IV: Review test results release dates.
Subtest V: Review test results release dates.
Candidates taking an online-proctored test will not receive a receipt of completion when their test ends.

Test Features

Computer-Based Testing
Subtests I, II, and III include one or more assignments that allow you to handwrite and scan responses. See scanning instructions and the hand-draw tutorial video  for information on how to use a response sheet for handwritten responses. (The instructions will be available during testing.)

Subtest III includes the use of a headset.

Online Proctoring
Subtests I, II, and III are not available via online proctoring.
